An impaired ability to feel empathy, this results in an inability for them to comprehend how their behavior is affecting those closest to them. For them it is all about fulfillment. When the potency of their current supply is on the decline, they will seek out newer supply. During this cycle, they are not even thinking of the other, their focus is on obtaining new supply and hurting the ones that care about them is often a byproduct of getting their fix. This aloof and distant manner comes from not wanting to take responsibility for any wrong-doing.
Their true motivation is so irrational, that the person never sees it coming, nor can they believe that is is even possible. Nice people don’t egregiously cause harm to those that care about them. But when you are involved with an UF, this is exactly what you get.
It won’t bog them down with guilt. The reality is that the devastation their behavior causes is an afterthought, a bump on the road. They have an arsenal of reasons and justifications and they lack insight into their own behavior. So getting a straight answer is near impossible, because chances are they don’t really understand it themselves. Fairly impulsive, they are just getting their needs met without thinking of much else.
Nostalgia, history, family, integrity, self-discipline, people pretend to care for, but in reality all this means nothing to those bent on obtaining new supply. Cognitively, they know deceiving, betraying, cheating are not characteristics one wants to be labeled with, so their goal is always to cover up their deeds and deflect responsibility for their actions, so they don’t acquire that, “bad person” rep.
Ego preservation techniques are off the charts. They deflect blame, shame and guilt by projecting it onto others.
They minimize their involvement and responsibility.
Someone who has buried their true self-expression and replaced it with a highly developed, compensatory self. This alternate persona to the real self often comes across as grandiose, self-absorbed and conceited. In our highly individualistic and externally driven society, mild to severe forms of narcissism are not only pervasive but often encouraged.
